Enjoy Walking Tacos for Under $1 Per Serving

 For generations, the walking taco has been a delectable snack and meal replacement across different cultures. Chances are you have been hungry, cash-strapped, and in a hurry all at the same time. These walking tacos are super easy to make with only a few ingredients needed. Turn a bag of chips into a meal plan all for under $ 1 per serving.

What You Need

The ingredients needed for this super cheap dish are: (change measurements later)

  • A small to large(change to actual measurement) chip bag
  • Protein source – ground turkey/ground beef/ chicken/black beans/etc.
  • Green source – lettuce or cilantro
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Diced Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Brown rice (optional)

Two Ways to Make It

You get 2 options for making this dish depending on your budget and access to ingredients,

  1. The Homemade Way
  2. The “Bro, I Only Have 1.00 Dollar” Way 

The homemade way gives you a lot more creative control to this dish and leaves some room to make leftovers for one dish that will cost you under $ 1.50 to make for each. But if you are really messed up (and we all have been there), you seriously can eat for under a dollar! Keep in mind, the second way requires you live near a gas hospitality chain like QuikTrip, RaceTrac, or Costco.

How to Make It the Homemade Way

  1.  Get Your family sized bag of Doritos or Fritos.
  2. Cook your protien.
  3. Dice the tomatoes
  4. Cut up onions.
  5. Distribute the Chips into a 6.5″ x 5.875″ sandwich bag.
  6. Add the protien source.
  7. Add your sauteed lettuce or green source.
  8. Add tomoatoes or onions.
  9. Optionally, add other ingredients that seem fitting.
  10. Get a spoon and scoop out some sour cream.
  11. Do a slight stir (Not too hard, you’re not making a stew!)
  12. Enjoy!

How to Make It the “Bro, I Only Have 1.00 Dollar” Way

  1. Get Your 50 cent bag of Doritos or fritos.
  2. Go to a gas hospitality chain.
  3. Insert chili or whichever available protein source into the bag
  4. Add jalapenos or lettuce
  5. Add diced tomatoes
  6. Add onion
  7. Add sour cream (if available)
  8. Do a slight stir
  9. Enjoy!

Meal Prepping

When meal prepping get up to 5 bags that are a good serving size and set them aside. Place all your ingredients into containers and refrigerate only the ingredients. Keep the chip bag in a non refrigerated area  and add chips to the containers when ready.
